Unless your name is Bucky Gunts or you had the misfortune to watch the middle third of the program, it’s hard to argue that Sunday’s Emmy Awards show wasn’t a success in its own right as a comedy-variety program. As Alessandra Stanley writes in Monday’s New York Times, the Emmys telecast yielded “a refreshingly light and speedy night that got a little manic at times.”
Among her favorite moments of the show – and which ArtsBeat heartily seconds – was the partly taped opening number, which featured the host Jimmy Fallon, the cast of “Glee,” Tina Fey, Jon Hamm and many more guest stars performing a rousing rendition of Bruce Springsteen’s “Born to Run”:
(Be sure to listen for the vocal cameo from Jorge Garcia of “Lost.”)
A close second would have to be another taped segment in which “Modern Family,” the newly minted winner for best comedy series, contemplates a few changes to the show, including adding Stewie, the cartoon baby from “Family Guy,” and George Clooney, very much in the flesh.
Got a favorite Emmys moment that we missed (and doesn’t involve the name of the winner for best direction of a variety, comedy or music special)? Post a comment and let us know.

Another rumor is appearing to hit the internet this morning, that Fred Savage, kid star of the TV show hit The Wonder Years, has died.
