Meg Whitman’s Maid is an Illegal Immigrant

Meg Whitman’s Maid is an Illegal Immigrant – Meg Whitman who is running for Governor of California decided to fire her maid for nine years after she allegedly find out that she was an illegal alien. Whitman is running on a campaign of strong illegal immigration laws for California.

Nicky Diaz however, disputed the claims of Whitman. Diaz said that Whitman know of her illegal status since 2005 but the GOP candidate never took action. Perhaps Meg Whitman did close her eyes on the issue because Diaz was only paid an hour which is very cheap.

“I was shocked and hurt that Ms. Whitman would treat me this way after 9 years,” says Diaz.

During a press conference, Diaz was flanked by Attorney Gloria Allred, where she accused Meg Whitman of wrongly firing her when she confessed her illegal status.

Whitman is alleging that this is all a political show and she never knew about DIaz status until she approached her and confessed about it.

Whitman says, “She knew I was thinking about… or I had already announced I was running for governor, and she came to us. She called me and she said, ‘I need to talk to you about something.’ And she came over on a Saturday to our house. And she said, ‘I feel terrible about this. I have to tell you that I’m not here legally.’ And my husband and I were there. We were stunned. Just amazed. And we said, ‘Gosh, Nicky. We’re gonna have to let you go.”

This issue will surely affect Whitman’s chances for Governor in the midterm elections this November. If the allegations were true this would mean that she is double-talking on the issue and fails to act on her personal case on illegal immigrants.

What do you think of this latest politically-motivated exchange of accusations?

“Death Ray” Heats Up Hotel Pool – WTAJ

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – Las Vegas has a new hot spot, but it’s not getting favorable reviews.

Guests at the Vdara Hotel & Spa are complaining that reflection from a glass skyscraper is magnifying and reflecting sunlight into the pool area, causing temperatures to soar enough to burn hair and melt plastic cups.

The “Las Vegas Review Journal” says some hotel employees are calling the phenomenon the Vdara “death ray.”  Gordon Absher, a spokesman for MGM Resorts International, which owns the Vdara, said the company is aware of the problem and is seeking solutions.

They may include thick umbrellas, shade structures or large plants.

In the meantime, if you’re heading to the Vdara, don’t forget to pack your sunscreen.

Beck loses advertisers

>>> the former housekeeper of meg whitman is ausing the republican candidate for governor of exploiting her emotionally and financy. the housekeeper, an undocumented worker, says that whitman knew she was in the country illegally. today her attorney, gloria alred, announced a claim for unpaid wages with the state of california .

>> we are here today so that meg whitman ‘s nanny and housekeeper can talk about what it was really like to be employed by meg whitman in her home for nine years. in short, it was a nightmare.

>> mark murray ‘s nbc news deputy political director. was there any proof provided? what else was said?

>> i haven’t seen the proof. the campaign held a conference call just a few minutes ago before this press conference to prebut some of the charges. while the woman had been working for meg whitman for nine years, she had actually filed fraudulent and false documents that she was a legal resident of this country. and after she said that she had filed false documents , she wasn’t a legal resident , that whitman fired her. the campaign says that it will produce documents showing that and showing the falsified documents. so we’ll wait to see when the campaign puts that out. but right now, it’s certainly a ba and, mark, i guess we have a statement from meg whitman ‘s camp. it says with the polls tied, it comes as no — you know what, i don’t have that statement here. we’ll get it in a second. in the meantime, can you tell me, mark, this is the second employee. we have the former ebay employee, there was an out-of- court settlement there, the details never released. this is the second person who has worked for meg whitman , making some kind of allegation. does this hurt her in any way, at least right now?

>> well, tamron, it could produce the — the image that meg whitman is a tough, combative person, although dealing with a really big state budget deficit that california has, maybe someone might think that’s a very good quality to have in the deal with sacramento. but as you mentioned, the “new york times” reported earlier this year that meg whitman , when she was a top head at ebay, had shoved an employee. that employee received a settlement in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. that employee, though, it should be noted went back to work for ebay. so this is the second employee that we’ve received — we now know that there was a complaint about whitman . how this impacts the governor’s race, we do not know. but certainly the campaign has been doing its best to deal with damage control and get their message out.

>> all right, mark. whitman ‘s campaign released this statement. they blasted gloria alred saying with the polls tied it comes as no surprise that the morning after a successful debate for meg that the sleaze machine of the political left is now focusing on the politics of personal destruction . very strongly worded statement there, mark.

>> very strong words. and what the meg whitman campaign is pointing to is that gloria allred has given jerry brown 0 campaign contribution in 2006 when brown was running for attorney general of the state. trying to make the charge that this is a politically motivated lawsuit that’s coming right after the election. of course, it will be interesting to see the allegations — more allegations from alred and this house keeper . but certainly this isn’t the type of terrain that meg whitman wants to be talking about 34 days before the election, especially after a debate last night that both candidates, brown and whitman , thought that they did well in.

>> mark murray , thank you very

Include cheap travel insurance in your holiday budget

Even the tightest holiday budget should include cheap travel insurance. Accidents happen when we least expect them, and dealing with any number of problems that could occur while you are away from home could turn your budget getaway into a money pit!

Whether you are travelling within Australia, or anywhere else in the world, whether it is a single trip or if you go away frequently, there are many many types of cheap travel insurance policies that can cover you for anything from a broken leg and medical attention, to delayed flights due to a natural disaster!

Sometimes the problem you are faced with may not even be something that has happened to you personally while you are away from home. A family member falling ill or dying, resulting in you needing to get home as quickly as possible can be a very costly exercise. Changing flights, cancelling accommodation and cancelling bookings for things such as fishing trips or tours can cost a fortune, but the last thing you need when faced with a tragic situation and you need to get home, is to worry about how much it is costing. Cheap travel insurance can cover you for such eventualities, as well as many more.

Even a short term hospital stay in a country where you do not have medical insurance, can cost a small fortune. Should you need medical attention that takes time such as surgery and recovery time, or need to be flown home under specialist medical supervision, you could be facing thousands of dollars in out of pocket expenses. If you were to have an accident requiring a helicopter airlift, that alone can cost well into the tens of thousands, but with cheap travel insurance you could be covered.

While it is advisable to take your time choosing your travel insurance policy and comparing different policies online, some cheap travel insurance companies allow you to take out your insurance policy online, even once you have commenced your journey! You can also start the claims process online, from anywhere in the world.

Basic policies can be very cheap, so there is no reason not to cover yourself and your family and give yourself the peace of mind that comes with knowing you are going to be looked after, should something beyond your control happen to you while you are on your holiday. Even something simple such as dropping your camera in the sea could ruin your holiday. But if you knew that you could replace it when you got home, the sting of the situation would be taken away a little, wouldn’t it?

If something unfortunate comes your way while you are travelling away from home, cheap travel insurance could be the difference between ruining your holiday and perhaps even landing you in debt, and having  a few funny holiday memories of situations that turned out ok because your  travel insurance company took care of the out of pocket expenses for you. Everyone is happy! Don’t risk ruining your holiday – cover yourself today.

Campaign stunt: a bunch of garbage

“What did Meg Whitman know and when did she know it?” publicity hound attorney Gloria Allred asked Wednesday. It was a savvy close to a news conference at which client Nicandra Diaz Santillan, who worked as a housekeeper for Whitman, alleged that Whitman knew that she was an illegal immigrant, then fired her in 2009 as she prepared to run for governor.

Turns out, there are reasons to believe that Whitman did not know that Diaz was illegal when she hired her in 2000.

The campaign released copies of the Social Security card and immigration eligibility verification form presented by Diaz when she was hired. By Allred’s account, these documents are phony. Having exhibited a willingness to fake legal status, the housekeeper’s credibility is damaged.

I’ve known smart people who thought they were following the law in demanding documentation, only to find out later that they were duped.

In this case, Diaz also presented a driver’s license. DMV spokesperson Jan Mendoza tells me, “It was a valid driver’s license.” California did not require proof of legal residence until 1994. Diaz got her first license in 1991.

To any voter who ever has hired a nanny, gardener or housecleaner, this would appear to be due diligence – especially for a 15-hour per week job that, according to Diaz, paid per hour.

This story goes to the heart of the dilemma that faces Californians who welcome legal immigrants, but also believe in respecting federal law. What was Whitman supposed to do, not trust Diaz because she has an accent?

Allred repeated Whitman’s assertion during Tuesday night’s gubernatorial debate: “We do have to hold employers accountable for hiring only documented workers. And we do have to enforce that law.”

That’s why, Whitman says, she fired Diaz when she realized she was illegal.

At the press conference, Diaz complained that she felt as if, after nine years’ service, Whitman “was throwing me away like a piece of garbage.”

Whitman called firing Diaz “one of the hardest things I’ve ever done.”

What proof does Allred have that Whitman knew? Allred alleges that the Social Security Administration sent a letter informing the Whitman household that their housekeeper’s Social Security number did not match her name.

Whitman and her husband deny having seen such a letter. So far, Allred has failed to produce it.

“If Ms. Whitman would like to dispute our claims of what she knew and when she knew it, then she should be prepared for the release of evidence,” Allred said. And you thought the burden was on the accuser.

“This entire political circus is targeted at one demographic,” said Whitman spokesman Tucker Bounds. “New polling numbers show that Jerry Brown is nearly losing in the Latino community. This is a political play.”

Brown spokesman Sterling Clifford released a statement that hit Whitman for showing “that she thinks the rules don’t apply to her. After more than a year of Whitman demanding immigration policy that ‘holds employers accountable,’ we learn that accountability doesn’t extend to her own actions.”

Without proof that Whitman knew about Diaz, that’s a cheap unsubstantiated shot from the Brown camp.
