Backpacks on! – how to get ready for a hike


 

First of all, choose your destination: according to your skills, age and experience you will choose one destination or another; if the destination is in the mountains, there are various types of paths among which you will choose the most suitable for the situation.

Once you chose the right place to spend your free day in the open air, you will need to choose the right equipment: you should choose it according to the destination and to the duration of your hike.

First of all, the clothing: it will be good to be ready to the hot sun of the mountains, but also to sudden wind and rain. As for the shoes, they should be suitable for the kind of path you’ll follow: usually, it’s good to have high shoes, surely with a good sole that will help you not to slip.

Once you prepared the right clothing, you’re ready for the next step: backpack are the basic equipment for a hike in the mountains – but also in any other place: they are comfortable and give you the chance to bring without getting to tired quite big loads. Once you found the backpack, you need to fill it with all you need during the day. First of all, water: enough not to get thirsty in the middle of the woods, but not too much in order not to bring useless loads; then, something to eat if you are not directed to a mountain hut, but anyway you’d better bring some energetic food. Then, a compass and a map not to lose the orientation, a Swiss army knife and a torch, sunglasses and a barrier cream, a hat and, hoping not to need them, a first aid bag and a whistle, to be used in case of necessity.

Backpacks developed enormously, in the last years: apart from the fact that you can find any kind of backpack online, the satisfy in a better and better way the needs of people who use them, distributing the load not on the shoulders that, though stronger than the hands, after a long walk they get tired: normally, modern backpacks discharge their load on the hips, much stronger that the shoulders, and closer to the barycentre, making the walk easier and more skilful.

Moreover, consulting a good catalogue, you’ll get to see the different accessories for the backpacks, that change according to the use they are destined to: for mountain lovers there are the so called “camel bags”, that are those backpacks with little tanks and a straw, particularly useful for trekking lovers, that in some cases may have difficulties to stop. But let’s not forget that backpack are useful not only in the mountains, but for many other purposes: for example, to carry in a comfortable and secure way computers and cameras. In these cases, the backpack must have the due stuffing and pockets to put the various components, to protect them from hits and not to make them move.
