Some Handy Travel Packing Tips

Traveling can be great fun especially if it is for a holiday. We all want breaks in the middle of our daily schedules. Going away for a short trip to some place nearby can be a great way to unwind. However, the most important aspect of vacations is packing. What we need on a trip is crucial to make things easy during the trip. There are some easy steps to make sure you take exactly what you need and don’t miss out on anything important.

Make a List

The first step to packing intelligently is to make a list of all the things you think you need. Don’t hold back while making this list as we will be editing them when you actually put those things together. Make sure you have the following as part of your list positively:

Cash
Credit cards
Clothes
Underwear
Passport (or any other identification proof)
Travelers’ check
Toiletries
Xerox copies of the tickets

Other than these, you may add a few more things such as your mp3 player, extra Acer Laptop Battery such as Acer 6M.48RBT.001 battery and Acer BATCL50L battery for your laptop, charger for your iPod and cell phone, and some snacks to munch on during travel.

Use Separate Plastic Packets and Zip Lock Bags

Packing your various items in separate plastic bags is the best way to make things simple and easy for you to deal with.

This will help you be quick and organized if you have to go through customs check at the airport. If you are staying at a hotel then you don’t have the space or time to unpack everything in your room and then look through your belongings. Using separate zip lock bags is also very helpful when you are carrying liquid substances such as body wash, lotions and even liquid make up. In case of leakage or breaking out at least your clothes and other important documents will not be ruined if they are separated by bags.

Plan your Outfits According to the Days

Don’t pack every bit of clothing you possess when you travel. Remember, that most of us like to shop for clothes when we go somewhere. Unless you are also planning to buy new suitcases, you may need some extra space to pack in the things you have bought during your vacation. Therefore, carry two extra pair of clothes than you have calculated according to the number of days of travel and the possible events that may come your way.

Keep Money, Valuables in Different Places

Don’t stuff all your cash, credit cards, jewelry, camera, iPod, phone and other expensive object into a single bag. If that bag happens to get lost or stolen then you will have nowhere to go. Some documents such as passport and tickets may be irreplaceable, at least for the time being.

Therefore, compartmentalize them and use more than one bag to put them in.

Always carry enough underwear so that you don’t have to wash them in the middle of your trip. Traveling light makes it easy to move around and reduces the chances of losing belongings. Keep a few extra plastic bags to throw things into.

A Few Travel Survival Tips

It’s a jungle out there! This may sound a bit too exaggerated but if you just think about it, it takes a lot to survive a day in a foreign city without experiencing a mishap of some kind.

Wherever you go, you need to know basic survival skills. It doesn’t matter if you are going to a tropical jungle or an urban jungle, the fact remains that only the fittest survive unscathed.

Play by the rules. Everywhere you go there are rules to follow, don’t cross the line and you will be fine. Most of these rules are not always written in the rule book, which makes it a little challenging for visitors to identify. You don’t have to always know them point blank – all you need is a good gauge for acceptable behavior and there’s no better gauge than the locals themselves. As they say, “when in Rome, do what the Romans do.”

Don’t call attention to yourself.

Crooks are good at sizing up their victims. Tourists usually are easy target. They don’t know the area, they usually carry a good amount of cash and they are more than willing to be assisted by the friendly locals. If you don’t fit the profile, crooks won’t even notice you.

So, try as much as possible to fit in with the locals or at least appear like you’ve been living there for a long time. Appear confident and walk purposefully – like you have a destination in mind. Do not look around like you are lost and don’t go waiving that big tourist map around.

Know the dangers. When in a dangerous situation, the prey either fights or flees. You can’t do neither if you don’t know that you are, in fact, in danger. It pays to know the common tourist traps in the area. Research your destination and heed the warnings of previous visitors.

There are numerous travel forum and travel guide materials that will point out what you should be on the look out for.

Join a tribe. Affiliations can help avert danger. Befriend your concierge or hotel staff. They are a rich source of information of where to go, what to do and what to avoid. If you are in a bind, you can easily contact them for help or assistance (if you have no better choice, that is).

Since crooks only target lone travelers, going out in a group at night keeps danger at bay. Just make sure to choose your company well because they may be the kind that starts trouble.

Learn distress signals and know how to give one. As much as possible, know the important numbers of authorities that you can call when you get caught in trouble such as the police, emergency rescue, tourist assistance and your country’s embassy. Being able to call them at once spells the difference between disaster and a lucky escape.

Stock up on your knowledge of travel survival tips and make sure to keep them in mind when on a trip and your traveling will be much more fun!

Destination Australia : Travel Survival Tips

Australia is an isolated country located between the Indian Ocean and the South Pacific Ocean. The continent is almost the same size as the contiguous 48 states of the USA. With Canberra as its capital, Australias unique plant life, marine life, and wildlife make it an interesting tourist destination for those who can afford it. The low crime rate makes Australia an ideal place to enjoy a vacation without having to worry about personal security more than what is normally necessary. Outback exploration, Great Barrier Reef snorkeling, Fraser Island camping activities, and Uluru (Ayers Rock) sight seeing are among the many tourist attractions available in Australia. With the aforementioned things in mind, I will construct some useful travel tips and information for those planning on making it to the wild outback.

1.Travel Documentation If you are planning to enter Australia, you will need a valid tourist visa. Australian tourist visas can usually be obtained at your local Australian embassy or online, assuming that your current passport has not and will not expire during the time you plan on spending in the country. This visa is usually entered into your passport before you enter the country and is valid for 3 to 6 months.

2.Money Matters As is with most places that are modern and up to date, plastic can prove to be the best and most easy method of payment. Visa, MasterCard, and most ATM cards are accepted as long as they carry either the INTERLINK, MAESTRO, EUROCARD, CIRRUS, PLUS, or STAR international ATM mark. However, as a traveler please familiarize yourself with the fees or service charges that are involved with using your card at a foreign location; and yes they do have ATM machines in most major towns. If you plan on using travelers checks, please understand that you will more than likely be charged a fee or commission when exchanging them; because they are usually only cashable at banks and larger hotels and nowhere else. Changing foreign currency can be done at most banks or at the foreign exchange kiosks at the international airports.

3.Transportation A good way of getting around, is the nice little invention called the rent a car. Please make sure that you have an international drivers license if you plan on using a car rental and arent sure if your regular license will be accepted. Remember, all traffic drives on the left hand side of the road in Australia. If you plan on outback exploration that will require driving on roads that are not main roads, please thoroughly check that all things are working properly on your vehicle. Also, let someone know ahead of time the details of where you are going so that everybody can take the necessary emergency precautions if you do not return on time. And remember that in most country locations; animals sometimes congregate in the road, and quickly approaching head lights can easily confuse animals so that they will not know which way to go. So please be very careful.

4.The Sun and its Heat The sun in Australia can get very hot and carries high UV light levels so it can easily be compared to desert like conditions. It is illegal to leave animals or small children locked in vehicles while the whether is hot, this can also result in a fine being issued. It is a good practice to use SPF 30 or better sunscreen in these type of conditions to prevent damage.

5.Going Swimming – Whether it is the Great Barrier Reef, The Ningaloo Reef, or the Golden Surf; the beach and ocean is an integral part of Australian life and Australian tourism. Please be informed that there are poisonous and deadly creatures lerking in these waters such as the box jellyfish, coral snakes, stone fish, sharks, and many others that are known to cause death. It is wise to swim only in flagged areas that are near beaches that are regularly patrolled. Sometimes crocodiles swim in salt water when they are changing habitat, so it is a good idea to know what you could be up against. Heed all warning signs when they are seen. And remember that the Australian surf is rough and there are dangerous rip tides that are capable of making swimming difficult and deadly.

6.Important information to know If an ambulance, police, or fireman is needed then the number to dial is 000. North American electrical appliances will require an voltage converter adapter socket to work in Australia, because the Australian electrical supply is 240/250 volts compared to the North American 110/115 volts.

You are now ready for your journey to the wild outback and beyond. Please be safe in your travels.

Some Tunisia Travel Advice Tips

No Tunisia travel advice is complete without the Amphitheatre of El Jem. Also spelt ‘El Djem’, it is the largest amphitheatre in North Africa and an UNESCO World Heritage Site. This amphitheatre held up to 35,000 spectators. Dating from the 3rd century, the ruined amphitheatre offers a quality of construction comparable with the Roman Coliseum. Animals, prisoners and gladiators, awaiting battle, were housed in the underground passageways.

The old city, or Medina of Tunis, is a group of intact historic buildings which preserve the connection between architecture, art, sculpture and urban planning typical of their period. The leaf motifs and colors of the roadside doors record Islamic symbolism and Tunisian lifestyles. The white, green and red coat of arms celebrates the Hafsid dynasty, the city’s rulers for 300 years. The symbolic, geometric designs above the doors are made with different sized nails.

The Medina of Tunis was designated a World Heritage Site in 1979.

In the Medina of Sousse you can feel the atmosphere of ancient Tunisia. Once you have entered the Medina by its southerly gate, you can discover the delights of its ‘souq’ or covered bazaars. You could also visit the museum (Dar Essid) which gives a good impression of upper-class traditional Tunisian life. The rooftop cafe affords great views across the city. The Great Mosque radiates peace, due to its rather severe Aghlabite style.

From the 12th to the 16th century Tunis was considered one of the greatest cities in the Arabic world. So it is no surprise that the Medina became a World Heritage Site in 1979. You’ll need flat shoes, because there’s a lot to explore. If you love history, architecture and sculpture, there are 700 monuments in the old city: palaces, mosques, mausoleums, ‘madrasas’ (Islamic schools) and fountains The doors are uniquely decorated with colourful, symbols and other designs are fashioned from nails.

Kerkouane was an important Punic city.

Its Necropolis (large burial site, from the Greek meaning ‘city of the dead’) was discovered in 1929 by a local schoolteacher who sold much of the treasure and jewellery he found. The network of vaults, four tomb-chambers and the surrounding area which make up the Necropolis lie northwest of the town of Kerkouane. Many other precious artefacts have been unearthed, including a set of rare perfume flasks. A sarcophagus cover representing Astarte, protectress of the dead, was another rare find. This UNESCO World Heritage site (1985) was declared as this is the only surviving example of a Phoenicio-Punic city.

Second only in importance to Mecca and Medina, Kairouan is considered to be the fourth most sacred city of Islam. In Kairouan you can find the Mosque of Uqba and the city is known as the Cultural Capital of Islam and it has indeed been a key place for the study of the Koran since the city was founded in the 7th century.

Conservation inspired the creation of Ichkeul National Park. This wetland offers an astonishing diversity of ecosystems. The park is home to many birds, 400 plants species, as well as animals and fish. Ducks such as shovellers, pochards and widgeons share the terrain with buffalo, wild boar and otters.

The site of Dougga/Thugga, situated in North West Tunisia, records more than 17 centuries in the ruins of a complete city. The site integrates several cultural styles: Numidian, Punic, Hellenistic and Roman, reflected in both public and private buildings: temples (dedicated to the Roman gods), a circus, baths, a theatre, a market, fountains, shops and houses.

Travel Insurance Tips and Importance

Travel insurance may or may not be beneficial for you when you take a vacation. There is alternative coverage, which you may currently have without realizing it. If you do not have any coverage, and you decide to purchase travel insurance for your trip, there are many things that you must take into consideration to find the policy that best suits you and your needs.

Most travel insurance policies are designed for a variety of travel needs but, I emphatically advise reading the fine print of any policy you purchase regarding any deductibles and health situations. You many find your policy won’t cover pre-existing conditions that may cause a problem, or that the medical coverage is only for an injury or an illness — not both. For emergency aid, travel insurance polices are generally dependable and affordable, but there are still a myriad of gaps in the coverage provided.

On of the things you should always travel with is proper health and travel insurance. Obviously your requirements will again vary depending on what kind of travel you are undertaking. If you are travelling for business, full travel insurance that will provide you with alternative flights if yours is cancelled or delayed will be important. For most holiday travellers, this may not be quite as important. If you are travelling with children you may wish to consider it, but otherwise you may be quite flexible and tolerant if delays do occur. But you may be more worried about your luggage and belongings and wish to have good coverage for loss or damage to your property. All these options are available today with the various travel insurance companies that are operating in the market.

If you suddenly become ill while on a cruise or traveling elsewhere, you can be evacuated to the nearest competent hospital if needed. For those who are traveling outside of their home country, this can be very useful since hospitals in other countries may not be up to our medical standards. With single trip travel insurance, this should be covered for you, but check with your travel insurance provider, of course, to get all the details.

Like any insurance policy, travel insurance is a contract between you and the insurer based upon “utmost good faith”. This requires you to disclose anything that may affect the acceptance or terms of a policy, any exclusions or its price.

Most traditional health insurance plans would not cover an unexpected illness or injury during international travel. But travelers with international medical insurance would have protection for scenarios ranging from a local ambulance trip to an emergency evacuation for care at the nearest qualified medical facility. Some even offer repatriation flights out of the country where the traveler is located back to the US.

When looking for cheap travel insurance, be careful to check you are not losing out on any coverage that you will need, such as theft, cancellation of holiday/flights. You may find that some polices really are too good to be true and cover you for the bare minimum.
