Depends where you go and where you stay and what season you (high season i.e. pricey season is November to March) go during. I would say a minimum of 300-500 baht a day if you stay in a really cheap place and eat on the cheap and don’t drink a lot. It’s cheaper up north than in the south. If you’re in patong for example during high season you can expect to pay at least 1300 baht a day and that’s if you eat, sleep and do nothing else.
I had someone visiting Thailand. They had been told even by a Thai in the states that they needed at least $ 100 a day.
So she didn’t want to come with her boyfriend but I told them they could live cheap and I will meet them in Bangkok and show them around for a couple of days.
We stayed in Bangkok in a very nice guesthouse for 250 Baht a night. They were a couple/friends.
I showed them where to eat. At street stalls. You can eat for 30-35 baht a person.
Then of course transportation since they want to see things.
They are students and don’t drink and smoke.
If they eat 3 times a day that’s about 100 Baht a head.
drinks 100 baht each
50 % of the room each 125 baht.
transportation 100 baht each…and that’s high I think
You have to add to this what you will consume and need. smoke, beer and women are the most expensive here.
You can rent a motorbike for 150 -200 baht a day.
You do the math.
You can spend a lot and you can live cheap and still good.
My friends went to the North and had the time of their life with the”little” money they had. They say it was not long enough.
Have a good trip
You can safely figure $15 a day if you stay really cheap – and do not move around too much – maybe $20 would be more correct –
However – what are you going to do for visa? –
Maybe stay a little shorter and enjoy a bit more
Time vs money – decisions of a lifetime
You can do it on a budget of $5000 to $7000 US for 6 months. Your problem is figuring out how to stay 6 months legally. You have to have proper visas to stay in Thailand that long.
Good luck.
Fantastic – so you have sorted out how to stay there for 6 months legally – you must be a Thai Back Packer then !
Please ask where you are planning to go and what your budget will be.
If you are found by Thai Police with not enough money on you and looking like a fragrant ,not having a bath for 5 days – you will be deported.
Do your research first and then ask this question again giving as much information as possible and people in this forum will give you all the information you need.
A Thai family can survive on less than 5000 a month – you will need at least double that.
You can get rooms for as little as 300-400 baht a night.
If you eat Thai then maybe 150 baht a day for food , even less.
Use coaches or trains to travel but sometimes its worth checking airasia.com for special deals on internal flights in Thailand.
good sites for info are sawasdee.com and tripadvisor.
