ORLAND PARK, Ill. (CBS/WBBM/AP) The shooting death of the mother of Comcast SportsNet reporter Sarah Kustok and former Northwestern University quarterback Zak Kustok has been ruled a homicide by the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

An autopsy report said 58-year-old Anita Kustok, of Orland Park, was pronounced dead Wednesday at Palos Community Hospital from a gunshot wound to the head.

Police are releasing few details about the case and Orland Park Police Cmdr. John Keating would not say where the shooting occurred.

Police say the 58-year-old Kustok was a teacher at Central Elementary School in Riverside.

“She is a beautiful person with a beautiful heart,” said the school’s principal Dr. Janice Limperis to the Chicago Sun-Times. “If anyone had a problem, she would find a positive way to look at it. We are devastated here. Her students are inconsolable. It’s like losing a family member.”

Her son, Zak, led Northwestern to the Big Ten fotball title in 2000, while daughter Sarah is a Comcast SportsNet reporter.

About Silver Oak Cellars
Entrepreneur Raymond Twomey Duncan first visited the Napa Valley in the late 1960s and began purchasing orchards, pastures and vineyards throughout the Napa and Alexander Valleys. In 1972, Duncan approached Justin Meyer, an experienced wine maker to help plant and manage the vineyards. Duncan and Meyer had a bold vision for producing a single wine—Cabernet Sauvignon. Silver Oak’s Alexander Valley vineyards produced the first Cabernet Sauvignon harvest later that year.

Meyer left the Silver Oak brand in 2001, but Duncan and his family continue to lead SilverOak, carrying forward the vision established more than 35 years ago. To learn more, visit www.silveroak.com

About Twomey Cellars

Twomey combines winemaking experience with a spirit of innovation, enabling the brand to work with a number of varietals including handcrafted Merlot, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. Twomey was founded with the same philosophy that guided Silver Oak: make food-friendly wines that are deliciously drinkable upon release.

Chicago Triathlon: A Hot Test Of Endurance

CHICAGO- While you were sleeping… More than ten thousand athletes awoke on this blistering hot day in Chicago, then swam, biked and ran their way through the city’s 28th annual international triathlon.  Its considered to be the largest race of its kind in the world.

Mark Fretta, one of the professional athletes, crossed the finish line first at 1 hour 52 minutes 22 seconds.  The fastest woman in the race is the same woman who took home the top prize last year, Sarah Haskins, with an impressive 2 hours 2 minutes and 2 seconds.  ”This is one of the greatest races in the country…but this year the heat makes it more difficult” she said.  Race day last year started a bit chilly for the end of August in Chicago.  This year temperatures hit the mid 90′s.  ”The temperature of the water was really nice, but the humidity did get to some people.  A lot of them had to walk during the running portion” says athlete Tim Maley.

Another athlete, Bill Owens, who’s done this race so many times he can’t even remember the exact number, says “Anyone who had to start this race after 10am really suffered”.  Mother nature aside, athletes did get a little boost from the thousands of spectators from all over the country who lined up to cheer on the athletes.

Most impressive in today’s race were the blind, the paralyzed and the otherwise impaired triathletes who are now wearing the same medal around their necks as their able bodied counterparts.

The Chicago Triathlon is the third in the lineup of the Life Time Fitness Triathlon Series.  Its a 6-race set that kicked off in Philadelphia in June and finishes up in Dallas in October.

Chicago Park District Celebrating 10th Anniversary with More Free Films

125 Parks Involved

Here in Illinois, in our big city of Chicago, it is a fun day. It is important to take a day off from mosques, killers and politics. The Chicago Park District is spreading fun through 125 neighborhood parks for its 10th Anniversary. The Chicago Park District is showing free movies. What better way to give kids something to do and families a way to enjoy some leisure time and have fun?

News Provider has posted an article titled “Chicago Park District: Movies in the Park Schedule.” In the posting, they give the schedule of the movies.

Have I ever been to one of these showings? The answer is yes, and I found that the behavior was good. People don’t come to make trouble; there is an aura of family, and I think it is in part at least because of the effort of the Chicago Park District.

What I love about these movies is that they start at dusk. It reminds me of when I was a little boy going to the drive-in with my parents. We would play on sliding boards and swings at the front of the theater.

The Chicago Park District, according to the article, suggests that you bring “a chair, juice, blanket and snack.”

The schedule is given for the next three days, starting today, Aug. 16. The overall schedule goes to Sept. 10. Among the movies being shown over the next couple of days are “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure,” “Sherlock Holmes,” and “Twilight: New Moon.” I have linked to the article for exact sites and movies.

I think this is the best kind of news. Today, when my son goes to a movie, it can cost up to .00. Furthermore, if he wants a snack or drink, it is ridiculous what they charge. Of course he cannot take his own food and drink into the theater.

The Chicago Park District has found a way to give kids an alternative to “doing nothing” and has given the family a chance to have some fun nights out for free or very little money.

I have found there are smaller towns with film fests that are free or very cheap. You should always explore; your local paper is always a good resource.
